Workshop 5 Sholver: “I didn’t realise we could alter things from ground level”

Quite a few people reflected that they had not thought about climate change before coming to the workshops, but now when they hear about it on the news they pay more attention and feel more knowledgeable. There was also a new sense for some that small groups doing things at a local level is a worthwhile part of the bigger picture.

Workshop 5 Westwood: “Crafting a hundred year vision”

Three early themes began to emerge on the need for improved sustainable transport, a central hub providing advice on energy efficiency at home and increased renewable energy generation that could be located within and power the neighbourhood. Transport measures were top of the list with ideas for improving the cycle and walkability within the neighbourhood and connecting to Oldham, an e-scooter scheme, cheaper public transport options, traffic calming measures and a one-way Featherstall Road all shared.

Workshop 4: “Our Magical Mystery Tour”

The group were inspired by the idea of a longer vision for the area, inspired by the Squash 100 year street idea, they have begun to think about how longer term planning could create more cohesive projects, and move them away from one off short term schemes which often fail to leave an impact or legacy.
